Inspired by Anthony Wheeler Art’s Chaotic Draw-along in October 2024, the prompt being “candy monster”, this illustration was created out of a collaboration between another traditional art streamer and I.

Jeremy (aka @jeremykatdraws) illustrated the monster in watercolor and ink by taking suggestions from his viewers as to which candies to incorporate – candy apples, peanut brittle, licorice, candy corn and more.

After digitizing the piece, I then illustrated the Candyland inspired Tokyo and Mt Fuji in digital watercolor, ink and pastel environment using Tayasui Sketches. Tokyo Tower is made up of various candies including pixie sticks, candy corn, red hots and a piece of a chocolate bar. Mt. Fuji is now Mt. Fudgie. The tanks are made of cake pops, white chocolate bars, pepper mints and laffy taffy shooting red jelly beans. And finally there is the Pez army. Oh! and the Lemon Head moon and blue heliPopter with gum for propellars… can’t forget those. Sometimes, I can’t remember what all I put into it.

My goal was to emphasize the “candy moster” without altering Jeremy’s illustration at all, so the idea of cut-out environment was appealing because I could easily create the environment in different pieces then incorporate the monster between them. In the end, I did alter the monster to emphasize the open mouth, originally white, to incorporate the godzilla-like laser glow.

I thoroughly enjoyed both this prompt, working with Jeremy and the final result.
